Nova Complex

Built in the early 1980’s the Nova Complex was a conversion of the 1930’s Lido Pool and not specifically designed with good Access for all as a high consideration. Much work has been undertaken over the years to encourage and facilitate use by all and the following gives an assessment of the present position.

Location

The Nova Complex is at the bottom of Bastion Road off the main A548 in Prestatyn at the crossroads adjacent to the T.A. Centre. There are no Bus routes to the Centre and the nearest Bus stop is approximately half a mile from the facility. There is a Car park opposite the facility with six (6) Accessible parking spaces. The pavements are dropped on both sides leading to the front door.

The Nova Centre consists of the following facilities: Swimming Pool, Bodyz Fitness suite, Starlight Function room, A Bar and the Windmill Restaurant.

Entrance

There are Double doors which at present are unassisted which lead to the Reception area.

Facility

From Reception all the facilities are on the first floor. They can be accessed via reception or have their own bespoke entrances. There is a lift in Reception area and an Accessible toilet facility also in Reception.

From the lift you can access the Starlight Suite, this is via un assisted double doors. The Starlight suite is serviced by toilets at the entrance. For functions and other uses of the Starlight suite, the Accessible toilet in Reception is also available. There is no lowered height section at the Starlight Bar but a clipboard is available to pass orders to the staff.

From the lift there is a door through to the Bar but this is not suitable for wheelchair access. The Bar has its own entrance up a set of stairs and also through the Orangery. This can be reached from a path to the right of the building which leads to the Patio area outside the Bar and Restaurant. There are no steps on this path. The Orangery has ramped entrances and the restaurant is reached through the Bar. The restaurant is Waitress service.

The swimming pool is situated to the left as you leave the Lift or go up the stairs. There are large Fire Doors which at this time are unassisted and somewhat heavy to use. There is a large relaxation area in front of the pool. There is an Accessible Changing Room directly leading to poolside. Both Male and Female showers have an accessible seated shower. There is a basic pool hoist to assist entry into the pool. There is a flume ride within the facility but this is not accessible to wheelchair users.

There is a basic Accessible toilet within the Pool Changing Rooms or for those not swimming the Accessible toilet in the Reception area is available.

Bodyz fitness suite is accessed from the relaxation area in front of the pool. There are presently no accessible changing rooms within Bodyz (installation due December 2004) there is a ramp to the Gym within Fitness Suite. Presently there is no I.F.I. approved equipment but again this will be installed by December 2004. The Sauna and Steam Room are not accessible to wheelchair users.
